It is a good time to choose renewable energy. The Municipal Light Plant makes it easy and affordable to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, increase energy stability in NE and give a healthier planet to our children. Wellesley’s Renewable Energy Program is a way to reduce your carbon footprint, and support the town’s goal of reducing emissions 25% by the year 2020. Currently, the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant offers local sources of wind, water, solar and biomass power - all clean, reliable and affordable.
Signing up your household for 100% renewable is the equivalent of taking your car off the road for nine months — that’s how much CO2 you will save! And by signing up you are helping Wellesley improve our ranking in the overall percentage of customers who choose to purchase renewable energy sources. Wellesley is currently 3rd in the country for percentage of enrollees.
What are the benefits?
Aside from the obvious benefits to the environment, Wellesley Renewable Energy helps New England’s economy by using local sources of renewable power. It also reduces our dependence on foreign sources of energy, and our reliance on finite resources such as natural gas.
What will it cost?
Choose the percentage of energy you would like to come from renewable, local sources, at 4 cents per kWh more than Wellesley’s already low rate.
100% renewable = $30.00 per month* 50% renewable = $15.00 per month*
25% renewable = $7.50 per month* 10% renewable = $3.00 per month*
*This is the approximate monthly surcharge for a typical Wellesley home using 750 kWh per month.
