As part of the Executive Order clarifying Phase 2 of the Massachusetts Reopening plan, restaurants will be allowed to offer outdoor dining at the start of this phase. Indoor dining will resume on June 22, as part of Step 2 of Phase 2.
In accordance with this order, Wellesley businesses may temporarily expand and/or create outdoor dining opportunities. To assist with this process and streamline outdoor seating requests, the Town has formed a committee to review the details of temporary Outdoor Seating Permit Applications which will be approved on a case-by-case basis. We know this is a challenging time and are open to creative proposals that are thoughtfully prepared and complete. We will partner with all restaurants to refine and expedite the proposals.
Restaurants interested in expanded dining options outdoors must follow this step-by-step guidance.
Governor Baker and the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC) also expedited the process for restaurants to expand areas for the sale of alcohol, and allows local governments licensing approval for restaurants to use adjacent and nearby public and private outdoor spaces. The ABCC Advisory and Patio Guidelines provide for more information.
