[ARCHIVED] COA Hosts "Wednesday Welcome" on October 6

Wellesley senior residents! Are you curious about the Council on Aging (COA) and want to learn more about its programs and services? Have you been to the Tolles Parsons Center?

Stop by "Wednesday Welcome" on Wednesday, October 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to explore the many programs and activities offered by the COA and visit our beautiful building at 500 Washington Street. 

Wednesday Welcome is open to residents who are just learning about the COA, along with current COA participants who may not have attended recently and those who want to increase their involvement.

Registration is encouraged, but not required.  Call the COA at (781) 235-3961, or email coa@wellesleyma.gov to sign-up and ask questions.   

Below is a COA Sampler of hosted activities and programs: 

Community Service Bears
This group of dedicated crafters work on community sewing projects. Stop by the Wellesley Bank Arts & Crafts Room on the 2nd floor; this group meets every Wednesday.  

Fitness Center
The COA Fitness Center, located on the 2nd floor is open to Wellesley residents over age 60. We're working to procure additional fitness equipment to expand the use of the Fitness Center in November. 

Friends of the Wellesley COA
Join the Friends of the Wellesley COA, the COA’s non-profit fundraising arm, in the Mary Bowers Café to learn what they do and how you can get involved.  Refreshments will be available for all to enjoy in the Café area.   

How to Age Well Q & A
Each week COA social worker Kate Burnham offers an in-person facilitated discussion group on various topics including: Making New Social Connections, the New Normal, Retired: Now What?, Widowed and Alone, and more. Join Kate in the Lee Conference Room on the 2nd floor to discuss issues such as housing, downsizing, insurance, estate planning, etc. 

LaBlast Dance Class
LaBlast is a dance fitness program based on the dances from “Dancing with the Stars.” It’s partner-free, ballroom dance fitness to all kinds of music. Join instructor Karen Karten for 20-minute LaBlast classes in the John & Dwin Schuler Multipurpose Room on the 1st floor. 

Mah Jongg
There is a lot of excited buzz about Mah Jongg!  Come learn what it is and how to play.  Join instructor Sue Seltzer in the American Legion Room.  

Ping Pong
The COA's ping pong table is set up every Friday afternoon for anyone to play. Located in the American Legion Room on the 2nd floor. 

Wellesley Pool (Billiards) League
Have you ever played billiards? Want to play with others who are equally excited about playing? Stop by the Pelzcar Cards & Games Room on the 2nd floor to meet some of the League members and even pick up a cue. 

Wellness Clinic
The COA works closely with the Wellesley Health Department offering monthly wellness clinics for blood pressure checks and more. Visit the Wellness Clinic on the 2nd floor and say hi to the Town's Public Health Nurse, Ann Marie McCauley,
