[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: Peak Energy Use Predicted!

News Logo

"Shave the Peak" today, Tuesday, July 30, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Today's peak is predicted to be the highest and most polluting so far this summer. Avoid electricity use if you can, or reduce your use.

Here's how:

  • Raise your thermostat a few degrees or turn off your air conditioner when leaving the house;
  • Avoid running major appliances during peak usage hours;
  • Run your mini-split AC in "dry" instead of "cooling" mode;
  • Charge portable electronic devices such as cell-phones, tablets and laptops off-peak and run them on batteries during the peak.

For these and other tips, the Town's Sustainable Energy Committee (SEC) is encouraging Wellesley community members to sign up for Shave the Peak alerts from the Green Energy Consumer Alliance at this link: https://www.greenenergyconsumers.org/shavethepeak

Texts from Shave the Peak let you know the days and hours during which projected electricity demand is at its highest.

Helping Wellesley Shave the Peak saves money, protects the environment and promotes electric grid stability.
