Choose to reduce energy use on hot days, keep Town electricity rates low, and improve the environment.
Join the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant’s (WMLP) voluntary demand response program and "shave the peak."
During the hot summer months, the Town reaches system-wide electricity peaks and must buy additional power from high-carbon producing plants that impact public health and the environment. By voluntarily conserving energy during a four-hour period of peak use - usually between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. - residents can help the WMLP reduce power purchase costs and maintain low electric rates.
Take part in the "Shave the Peak" program and receive email notifications from the WMLP about upcoming hot days and tips to conseve energy. Suggestions include:
- Turning up the thermostat a few degrees
- Making sure that electric vehicles or other electric devices are charged outside the peak window
- Delaying laundry or dishwashing until after the peak
More than 200 residents have signed up so far this summer. Add your name to the list by emailng shavethepeak@wellesleyma.gov with the subject "Shave the Peak."
