Join us as Donna Halper, Historian and Radio Consultant, presents Part 3 of a three-part series on Thursday, March 10th at 6:30 PM. As information moves faster and faster, it becomes easier to get the latest news or watch your favorite show online; but it also becomes easier to get myths and misinformation from folks who are being paid to mislead you. We’ll look at some hoaxes and frauds of the internet age; discuss the rise of social media, including “clickbait” and “memes” and “trolls” and “bots”; learn about how creating false information became a lucrative industry; and see how autocrats and political leaders all over the world have used the internet and social media to manipulate their citizens. We will also learn some techniques distinguishing what is fake news and what is not. This evening lecture is made possible by a generous grant from The Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club.
