Local Historic District Study Committees

Local Historic Districts help protect Wellesley’s history, culture and values by preserving homes, buildings, or areas in our community that are historically significant and protecting, maintaining and improving the characteristics that make them so distinctive.

In accordance with Massachusetts General Laws (MGL) Chapter 40C and Town of Wellesley Zoning Bylaw, Section 14D, the Historic District Commission is responsible for acting as – or appointing through the Select Board – a Study Committee for any proposed new Local Historic District within the Town.

Refer to the Massachusetts Historical Commission’s Establishing a Local Historic District Guide for more information on the process to establish a new local historic district.
