Wellesley's Hazard Mitigation Plan has been formally approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The 250+ page plan was created as part of an ongoing effort to reduce the risks associated with natural hazards such as nor'easters, floods, and hurricanes and the effects of climate change. It provides a comprehensive examination of the natural hazards affecting our area and outlines mitigation strategies to lessen the impact of these natural hazards when they occur.
Formal approval of the plan now makes Wellesley eligible to apply for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance grant programs.
This is the Town's first Hazard Mitigation Plan. It was developed through a collaborative effort by Town officials, key stakeholders including Babson and Wellesley College and the Charles River Watershed Association, the public, and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
The plan will continue to evolve over time and will be updated every five years.
