Help the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) track biodiversity at the Simons Park Pollinator Garden.
The NRC is holding a Habit to Habitat summer bio-blitz from Wednesday, August 13 to Sunday, August 31 and asking people to help identify the many species that are using the pollinator garden, which is next to the Wellesley Free Main Library.
Take quality photos of insects and other animals you see. Upload your photos to the free iNaturalist app. (Make sure to set your photos to Geoprivacy Open so the location of your pictures can be identified.)
Your observations will be shared with members of the iNaturalist community and will help scientists and naturalists with biodiversity research.
Simons Park was re-landscaped in 2023 as part of the NRC's Grow Green Wellesley initiative. The previously open lawn was transformed into a garden with native plants and pollinators to create a resource-rich habitat for at-risk native bees and butterflies.
The NRC is monitoring the site and asking the community to help with observations to determine the impact of this project. Contact Lisa Moore, NRC Education, Outreach & Compliance Coordinator at lmoore@wellesleyma.gov
