A second Wellesley community meeting on the MassBay Development Proposal is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8 at 6 p.m. in the MassBay Library Atrium (50 Oakland Street).
A recent article in The W included incorrect information on this proposal. The 45-acre parcel of land is currently owned by the State. MassBay, acting on behalf of the State, will be selling the land to a developer for the development of housing under the Massachusetts Affordable Homes Act of 2024. This Act addresses housing challenges in the Commonwealth and prohibits cities and towns from imposing restrictions on housing development.
The Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) is the State agency acting as the broker for the sale, and is currently asking for public input to further guidelines for a Request for Proposal (RFP). The Affordable Homes Act requires that this land must be used to build housing at a minimum density of four units per acre.
In addition to the public meeting, comments can be emailed to realestate.dcamm@mass.gov
