[ARCHIVED] Take the City Nature Challenge

NRC Logo

Take part in a bio-blitz this weekend by joining citizen-scientists around the globe in the City Nature Challenge

The City Nature Challenge is a friendly competition to document wildlife and vegetation in our community. It began in 2016 as a competition between the California cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco and has become an annual, international event.

Wellesley's competition is organized by the Natural Resources Commission.

The observation period begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, April 30 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 3. The competition instructions are easy and safe.

  • Take a Self-guided Trails Walk or meet others in your neighborhood park, school, or even your own backyard. (Make sure to follow COVID-19 guidelines and stay distant from other groups).
  • Photograph anything natural and upload the photos to iNaturalist using the app or your computer.

If you want to do more, on May 4 through May 9 the NRC will work to identify the wildlife, vegetation, and other biodiverse images found during the blitz.
