[ARCHIVED] Take the Food Waste Challenge

ReduceReuseRecycle

Step up and take part in the Wellesley Food Waste Challenge!

During the month of November, the Department of Public Works (DPW) is challenging resients to sign up for the Town's Food Waste Drop Off program. Join the more than 600 households that are composting food waste to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills, save tax dollars, and generate renewable energy.

The DPW hopes to increase participation in this program by 20-25%. Residents who are interested in participating should fill out the Food Waste Starter Kit form to reserve a free starter kitRDF_Food Waste Recycling Area (while supplies last). Kits can be picked up at the Recycling and Disposal Facility (RDF) and include compostable bag liners, a counter top container for food waste, and a larger container for transporting food waste.

At the RDF, drop off food waste in designated containers that will be picked up and the food waste converted into electricity, heat, liquid fertilizer, bio char/animal bedding or as ingredients to produce high grade compost.

Follow the DPW on Twitter @WellesleyDPW and watch for tweets with facts and updates on the Food Waste Challenge. Have suggestions on food waste recycling? Share those on Twitter and tag #wellesleyrecycles.

Learn more about the Food Waste Program on the RDF webpages or contact the RDF at 781-235-7600 ext. 3345.
