The annual Wellesley Veterans’ parade took place on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 1 PM.
The parade route stretched from Wellesley Hills westbound on Washington Street to Wellesley Square at Central Street. Approximately 106 various groups participated in the parade including World War 1 theme military vehicles, based on the 100-year anniversary of the war.
Wellesley Police officers were busy managing the traffic during the event, which saw road closures from Oakland Street to Central at Cross, and included the ramps from Route 9 east and west to Route 16. There were no significant events during the parade, and roads were fully open at approximately 3 PM.
Wellesley Police Chief Jack Pilecki and members of the Wellesley Police Department Honor Guard marched in the parade. For Officer Jim Amalfi, the parade marked the end of an era. Retiring later this year, this will be the last parade that Officer Amalfi will be marching in with the Honor Guard. For the last twenty-five plus years, Officer Amalfi has marched in every Wellesley Parade that has been held.
Later in the evening the annual fireworks show was held on the Hunnewell Field, which also ran smoothly despite the colder than normal temperatures.
