Every October, Wellesley Police Officers wear a pink pin on their uniform, and in some cases, pink Wellesley Police patches. Wellesley Police cruiser 1408 will also be sporting a ‘hot pink’ color for the month. 1408 is assigned to Officer Kathy Poirier during the day, as one of the department’s School Resource Officers. 1408 is assigned to patrol during the evening hours.
Breast Cancer Awareness month is intended to raise awareness about the disease that affects 1 in 8 woman. Early detection is critical to treatment, as some 200,000 new cases will be diagnosed in the next year.
For the past three years, Wellesley Police Chief Jack Pilecki has had a fully marked police cruiser re-painted in pink for October. The paint is temporary, and is peeled off in November, restoring the car to the normal department colors.
Chief Pilecki also has a banner placed on the Wellesley Police Department building for October.
