[ARCHIVED] Aggressive Driveway Paving Scam

Driveway paving scam advisory:

DrivewayPavingTwice within the past 5 days Wellesley Police Officers have encountered work crews from Old Stone Paving and Masonry working on residential driveways. This company and others like it, have been operating within the metro-west area recently. They solicit business door to door, often times aggressively pushing their driveway paving services.  In the past, the workers claim to have 'extra' paving material from a previous job, and thus can offer a large discount.

Unfortunately, the product they provide is far inferior than that of legitimate paving and/or landscaping companies. Poor quality asphalt, little to no prep work, improper finish work and they operate without insurance or permits from the Town of Wellesley.

These pop-up paving groups, often prey on the elderly promising quick service and a considerable price break if you pay in cash. However, the final price is usually quite high, usually in the range of $5,000 to 8,000, for a substandard final product.

If a paving or landscaping crew solicits your home and you have any suspicions about the legitimacy of the business please contact the Wellesley Police Department at 781-235-1212.
