[ARCHIVED] Unlocked Cars Stolen From Wellesley Driveways

Dispatch Image 5Over the last month, Wellesley has experienced more than five stolen cars.  In the past week alone, the department has investigated three such thefts.  In all of these cases, the cars were taken from residential driveways at night.  The cars were unlocked, and the keys were inside.

Typically, the stolen car thefts are occurring from 10 PM to 2 AM but aren’t reported until the following morning.  In a recent case, Wellesley Officers encountered two stolen cars being driven on Garden Road at 12:40 AM.  The cars had just been stolen from Arnold Road.  Neither had been reported stolen, and the officers were responding to another call for suspicious activity in another neighborhood when they encountered them.

Both cars fled from Wellesley Police Officers.  One suspect fled on foot after striking a fire hydrant, and officers discontinued the vehicle pursuit with the second car for safety as it entered Newton and was driving extremely recklessly.

Please lock your vehicle doors and remove your keys from the vehicle.  This type of stolen car crime is entirely preventable.    Don’t allow your car to be used in another crime!  Lock your doors and remove your keys each night.
