[ARCHIVED] Call 911 to Report a Gas Leak

Fire Patch

In response to local concerns resulting from the disastrous situation in the Merrimack Valley, the Wellesley Fire Department is reminding residents to call 911 immediately and go outside if they smell gas in their homes, on their street or anywhere in the area. Fire Department equipment has gas meters to investigate any leaks and fire officials will notify National Grid of threatening leaks (classified as Level 1) directly from the scene and remain until the issue is resolved. The town and NGRID have identified more than 200 ongoing, non-threatening leaks (classified as Level 2 or below) in Wellesley due to aging infrastructure and are working to expedite repairs but the process is lengthy and complicated. Fire officials are always willing to return to investigate any ongoing leaks to determine if they are getting worse in an effort to advocate for our residents and keep our community safe.

Additional information on reporting gas leak emergencies is available from National Grid.
