Wellesley firefighters took part in live fire training on November 13, using a burn trailer to simulate conditions for a house fire.
The trailer is provided by the Massachusetts Fire Academy and allows fire officials to practice evolving techniques in a safe, controlled environment. 
Teams of firefighters from Wellesley, Waltham, Weston, and Newton took part in the exercise, which was led by fire lieutenants and deputy chiefs. Practicing with neighboring towns helps ensure seamless coordination and support during mutual aid calls that may involve many different fire departments.
The training also gave Wellesley dispatchers the opportunity to practice critical steps necessary to coordinate a rapid fire response in the event they receive 9-1-1 calls for house fires.
This was the first live fire training for Wellesley in quite a few years. Going forward, fire officials hope to make it a twice-yearly activity to help firefighters continue to advance their skills.
