The Wellesley Public Schools administration is recommending changes to elementary school redistricting maps.
As part of the planning for Wellesley's two elementary building projects, the new Hunnewell School and the new Hardy School, WPS engaged in a comprehensive redistricting process to be implemented once the new schools were completed and the district consolidated to six elementary schools.
Because this plan was approved by the School Committee so far in advance, the district committed to confirming its enrollment projections and distribution of students before this plan takes effect in August 2024.
After a thorough analysis of current student enrollment and assignment patterns, WPS administration is recommending changes in school assignments to areas along the Fiske/Hunnewell boundary line and the Bates/Hardy boundary line. These recommendations will be shared at the School Committee meeting on Tuesday, January 23.
Administrators will also outline the related student assignment practices tied to this implementation.
More information is available in the slideshow that will be presented on Tuesday at the School Committee meeting. See the meeting agenda.
See the specific redistricting maps here.
WPS anticipates that community members will want to provide feedback. Residents may participate in the public comment portion of the January 23 and January 30 School Committee meetings, email the School Committee (school_committee@wellesleyps.org), or attend the following public forums:
