[ARCHIVED] 2019 Boston Marathon Invitational Entries Now Available

Boston Marathon

The 123rd Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 15, 2019.  The Town of Wellesley has received a limited number of invitational entries to distribute to local charities based on guidelines established by the Board of Selectmen (BOS).  Effective immediately, the Board is accepting requests from charities wishing to apply for these entries. At an upcoming regular meeting, the Board will review all charitable applications and designate which organizations will receive a specified number of entries.

To be considered for an invitational entry, charities must complete the 2019 Invitational Entry Application and return it to the Selectmen’s office by Monday, November 26, 2018

Individual runners seeking an invitational entry are welcome to either: (a) encourage a charity of their choice to submit an application; or (b) submit their name to the Selectmen’s office indicating their interest in running on behalf of the Town's designated charity, the War Memorial Scholarship

The Board of Selectmen has adopted a formal policy regarding the distribution of invitational entries. As the policy explains, two entries will be reserved for Wellesley residents and/or employees selected to run for the War Memorial Scholarship. The remaining entries will be made available to charitable organizations significantly contributing to the Town or some population of Town residents. Given the high number of requests for entries in prior years, the Board may issue only one entry per charity each year.

All charities receiving invitational entries are encouraged to give preference to Wellesley residents when awarding these entries.  Each charity must report the actual amount of funds raised through this initiative.

Any individual runner who receives an invitational entry from one of the designated charities will be expected to raise a minimum of $4,000 for the charity.  Prior to receiving the entry, runners must provide a credit card number demonstrating their commitment to raising this amount.  Once the relevant charity confirms the fundraising commitment has been met, this credit card information will be destroyed.

Applications for charitable entries should be sent to and any questions directed to:
