Driving to Boston? Be aware of closures for the Mass Pike and the Sumner Tunnel this summer.
Mass Pike Ramp Overnight Closure
Two ramps onto the Mass Pike (I-90) eastbound from I-95 and from Route 30 in Weston will be closed during the overnight hours from Sunday through Thursday until June 27.
The closure will allow crews from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) to safely conduct construction and repairs on the Newton/Weston interchange bridge.
Work will take place between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. and continue overnight until June 27.
Detours will be in place and MassDOT has signs, law enforcement details, and message boards to guide drivers.
Sumner Tunnel Closing Again
The Sumner Tunnel to Logan Airport will be closing again this summer to allow MassDOT to address and repair issues with the 100-plus year old tunnel's safety, ceiling, lighting and security systems, and other service.
The Sumner Tunnel will close for two weekends - the weekend of June 14-16, and the weekend of June 21-23, and then completely close for five weeks from Friday, July 5 through Friday, August 31.
Drivers should expect traffic delays and back-ups getting in and out of Boston while the tunnel is closed.
