[ARCHIVED] A Change in Chiefs

Police News

Wellesley's new Chief of Police, Scott Whittemore, took the oath of office at the Select Board meeting on Tuesday, June 24.

In front of his family, many friends, and most of the Wellesley Police force, Whittemore was sworn in by Town Clerk KC Kato, promising to:

Whittemore oathFaithfully and impartially discharge and perform all duties incumbent upon me as the appointed Chief of Police,

Bear true faith and allegiance to, and uphold and defend, the Constitution of the United States of America, and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and to uphold the ordinances and bylaws of the Town of Wellesley, and

Solemnly swear that I will never betray the badge, my integrity, my character, or the public trust, always having the courage to hold myself and others accountable for their actions.

Whittemore is a Wellesley native and 28-year veteran of WPD.  His interest in law enforcement started in college when he began working as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for the City of Rochester, NY, while attending Rochester Institute of Technology.

He joined WPD in 1996 and rose through the ranks, becoming Deputy Police Chief in 2017. In addition to his regular duties, Whittemore is an accomplished photographer and drone operator and routinely uses these skills in WPD's work and training.

Whittemore holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from RIT, a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State University, and is a 2016 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Scott Whittemore is Wellesley's 10th Chief of Police, and will officially take over the role when current Chief Jack Pilecki retires on June 30.

Congratulations Chief Whittemore!
