[ARCHIVED] Safety Tips for Charging EVs, E-bikes, E-scooters

Fire Patch

Batteries for electric vehicles (EVs),  electric bikes, and electric scooters can be a fire hazard when not properly used or correctly charged.

These vehicles use Lithium-ion batteries that may overheat, catch fire, or explode. Lithium-ion battery fires give off toxic gases and they burn extremely hot.

Recently, the Wellesley Fire Department responded to a house fire that was caused by an improperly charging e-scooter.

Fire Department officials are reminding residents to follow all manufacturers guidelines and practice safe charging tips to reduce the risks of fires.

If you have questions or concerns, the Fire Prevention office can provide assistance.
