Does your property abut Town-owned land? The Wellesley Natural Resources Commission (NRC) is educating residents about the Town’s Encroachment Correction Policy.
“Encroachments” involve a wide variety of intrusions by landowners, including building fences, retaining walls and/or structures, landscaping, or dumping trash or debris on Town-owned land.
This policy has been adopted by several Town bodies that hold land under their jurisdiction, including the NRC, Select Board, Board of Public Works, School Committee, Board of Library Trustees, and the Municipal Light Board.
Using the Town’s Graphic Information mapping system, NRC staff have identified many potential encroachments in Wellesley with varying degrees of severity.
Town officials are beginning an educational campaign and asking residents to remove these encroachments and restore the open space areas to their original condition, as specified in the Encroachment Correction Policy.
In the coming days, homeowners with property that has been identified as having encroachment issues will be receiving a letter from the NRC requesting a site visit to discuss the steps that must be taken to correct these issues.
