The DPW is pleased to tell you that work related to underground municipal infrastructure on Weston Road is substantially complete. This includes water, sewer and drain pipe, as well as conduit for speed check signs and pedestrian crosswalks. This keeps the project on track with the overall schedule.
The next phase of the work will focus on the pavement the week of September 28th through October 3rd. This phase will require both night and day work and will require another road closure and detour. Information on the planned schedule and answers to frequently asked questions can be found on the reverse side of this letter.
The schedule for this phase of the work includes starting with a pavement milling process on Sunday evening September 28th at 8pm. The work will remove between 3 and 6 inches of pavement from the existing road, starting near the Route 9 ramps and proceeding northerly. Work is expected to stop each night around 5am. Pavement transitions will be established at both ends so that local access, buses, deliveries and emergency vehicles will always have access. The milling will restart each night through Wednesday with a potential additional night, if needed. Starting Tuesday paving will begin on the milled areas following the south to north progression. A majority of the milling and the installation of the base pavement course is expected to be completed by October 3th. A chart showing the contractor’s plan is shown on the reverse side of this note
We recognize that this work will be impactful. We hope this advance notice will help you plan for the disruption. DPW staff and police details will always be on-site during any construction periods to assist as necessary. If there are additional questions or concerns, please contact the Engineering Division at 781-235-7600, extension 3315 or email us at dpw@wellesleyma.gov.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will access to my driveway be affected? Yes, the milling will lower the grade of the road at the edge of your driveway by several inches. During that process, typically less than 30 minutes and at night your access will be cut off, but the contractor will install temporary ramps immediately as needed. The grade change and the material used will require you to proceed slowly over the ramp until the base pavement is installed typically within 24 hours.
Will the work affect school access and school buses? Minimally, the DPW is working with the Wellesley Police Department and the School District to keep the sidewalks open and the buses on schedule with no change to pickup locations or times. Parents that choose drop-off should plan for some delay.
How will deliveries and visitors be handled? Access to your house for any visitors or deliveries will be allowed and facilitated by the construction detail officers, although there may be some delay. To the extent that schedules allow it the DPW would appreciate any actions that minimize vehicle trips during this work.
Will the work be loud or dirty? Yes, pavement milling and installation equipment is noisy and loud as are the required back up safety alarms for all construction equipment. However, the work will proceed along the corridor at a steady pace such that the duration when the construction is directly in front of any one property is typically less than 30 minutes. Our contractor will have materials on the site to control dust.
When will the project be complete? Spring of 2026. Work on sidewalks, curbs and crosswalks with compliant ADA panels will occur immediately after the base pavement work is complete and is expected to go though the remainder of the 2025 construction season. It is expected that as soon as the weather breaks next spring the final paving, line striping, signage and pavement markings will be completed.
