Water Conservation Needed - Resident Cooperation Requested
The Town of Wellesley Department of Public Works is requesting the cooperation of all residents in voluntarily conserving water during an emergency maintenance period prompted by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA).
The MWRA has announced that unexpected maintenance work is required on its system. As a precautionary measure, the Wellesley Water Division has been placed on standby to provide potential mutual aid to the neighboring Town of Needham. During this time, Wellesley residents may experience temporary fluctuations in water pressure or brief water discoloration. These changes are not harmful to health or safety.
To help maintain adequate water pressure for both communities and to support essential services, residents are asked to take the following voluntary water conservation steps:
How you can help – voluntary conservation measures:
Indoor:
- Take shorter showers
- Run dishwashers and washing machines only when full
- Limit non-essential water use
Outdoor:
- Temporarily suspend lawn watering and irrigation systems
- Postpone car washing and power washing
- Avoid filling pools or hot tubs
Your voluntary cooperation is greatly appreciated and helps ensure adequate water pressure for essential services during this maintenance period. We do not anticipate this work to last more than 24-hours, and will provide updates as work progresses, as well as notify residents when normal service is restored.
