A cold weather advisory is in effect in our area overnight and into tomorrow as dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills are expected. As these conditions can lead to frostbite and hypothermia quickly, please protect yourself, your pets, and your property.
Stay inside, bring pets inside, and stay warm.
If you must be outside, limit the amount of time and wear appropriate clothing (coats, hats, gloves, scarves, insulated footwear). For pets, limit time outside, protect paws, and bring food and water inside to prevent freezing.
Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone vulnerable to extreme cold. Read cold weather safety tips from the Wellesley Health Department.
Prevent frozen pipes! Extreme cold can cause household pipes to freeze and burst. Reduce these risks by:
- Keeping your home adequately heated, even if you're away
- Opening kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow heat to circulate around plumbing
- Allowing faucets to drip slightly to keep water moving
- Inspecting gutters and roofs to prevent ice dams
If you experience burst pipes or household water emergencies, call the Wellesley Fire Department at 781-235-1300.
