On March 13, 2019, Wellesley Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Detectives arrested 44 year old Lorenzo Salguero at a gas station, located on Washington Street in Wellesley on felony drug trafficking charges. Salguero is an employee of the gas station and was working at the time of the arrest.
Wellesley Police Detectives initiated the investigation following a fatal drug overdose in another community. Detectives learned that the overdose victim may have purchased illegal narcotics from someone at a gas station on Washington Street in Wellesley on a regular basis. While conducting surveillance of the station, Wellesley detectives observed some customers arriving at the gas station and subsequently not purchasing any gas or services. However, detectives did observe hand to hand transactions with Salguero and customers that were consistent with street level drug purchases.
Following one such transaction that detectives observed, both the purchaser and Salguero were stopped. Salguero had some 60 bags of a substance believed to be cocaine amounting to approximately 42 grams. This amount of cocaine rises to the level of a drug distribution charge as well as a drug trafficking charge.
Salguero was arrested by detectives at approximately 6:50 PM. The purchaser involved in the transaction also had what was believed to be cocaine on her person as well. The purchaser was summonsed to Dedham District Court for drug possession and motor vehicle violations and will be arraigned at a later date in April.
Salguero was booked at the Wellesley Police Department and held on $12,000 bail. He was arraigned in Dedham District Court on March 14 for Distribution of a Class B substance (cocaine) as well as Trafficking in Cocaine.
The owner of the gas station is cooperating fully with the investigation and had no idea that this was happening.
