[ARCHIVED] Low Mosquito Risk for Wellesley

Wellesley Public Health Banner

The Town of Wellesley is monitoring mosquito activity in light of recent concerns about Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE).

Wellesley remains at the low risk level; testing shows low mosquito populations overall and no EEE-infected mosquitoes. Neighboring communities Weston, Newton and Needham are currently also listed as low risk.

However, even at low risk levels the Health Department is reminding residents to take regular precautions to avoid mosquito bites. These include common sense steps such as using insect repellent, limiting outdoor activity during peak mosquito times, and wearing long-sleeves, long pants and socks when outdoors.

Currently there are no plans to spray for mosquitoes in Wellesley.

Residents can find up-to-date information on mosquito activity throughout the State and tips on preventing mosquito-born diseases such as EEE and West Nile Virus (WNV) on the Mass.gov mosquito resources web pages.

Please check the Town of Wellesley website for continued updates on this situation.
