In October...Pink is the new Blue!
The Wellesley Police Department is participating in the Pink Patch Project this year, a nationwide awareness campaign where police departments sell pink patches d
uring National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The police department will be selling a limited edition Pink Patch which showcases the Town of Wellesley seal in pink.
Donations will be made to The Julie Fund for Women’s Cancer. The Julie Fund was started in 2004 when Julie McAvinn, a Wellesley resident, died from ovarian cancer. Julie was 40 years old and the mother of 3 children when her life was cut short. This fund is used for women’s cancer research, patient and family support, and educational programs in order to raise awareness of the symptoms and treatments for all types of women’s cancer.
The $10 patch can be purchased at the Wellesley Police Department beginning October 7, 2019. Since the inception of the Pink Patch Project in 2015, more than 900,000 patches have been sold and more than $1 million dollars have been donated to cancer research organizations nationwide.
Additionally, officers will be participating in the event. Wellesley Police officers have the option of wearing the pink patch instead of their regular patch during the month of October.
