The School Building Committee (SBC) has voted 7-6 to recommend to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) to build at the Hardy Elementary School site.
The vote was taken at the SBC meeting on Thursday, September 24. Watch the meeting recording on Wellesley Public Media.
Multiple options at both the Hardy School site and the Upham School site were considered for the building project. The SBC’s voted recommendation was for a new, approximately 81-thousand square foot building on the center of the Hardy site behind the existing school.
The recommendation now goes to the Board of Selectmen and the School Committee for approval. The two committees will meet jointly with the SBC on Thursday, October 1 at 5:30 p.m. to review the recommendation, with votes to be taken at subsequent meetings.
An informational update will be presented to all Town Meeting Members on Tuesday, October 6 at 7 p.m. This will not be a Town Meeting vote but an opportunity for members to ask questions and provide feedback.
The recommendation to build at the Hardy School site must be submitted to the MSBA by the Selectmen and the School Committee on or before October 27. Construction is anticipated to begin during the summer of 2023.
