[ARCHIVED] Bank Robbery in the Lower Falls

On December 11, 2017 at approximately 2:37 p.m. the Wellesley Police Department’s Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from an employee at Wellesley Bank, 29 Washington Street, indicating that a male party had just robbed the bank.  The employee described the suspect as a male, approximately 5’6” wearing a light colored hooded sweatshirt, a mask and gloves.   We are investigating whether a weapon was used during the commission of the robbery.

The male party reportedly fled the bank on foot and headed eastbound towards Newton.  Several officers responded and began checking the area for the suspect.  St. John’s Elementary School is located nearby and was in the process of their afternoon dismissal.  Wellesley Officers assisted with the dismissal to ensure the students safety.  Massachusetts State Police K-9 units responded to check the area.  The K-9 check of the area was negative.

Detectives responded to the bank and are processing the scene.  No further information is being released at this time.  When photographs of the suspect become available they will be posted on our website www.wellesleypolice.com and Mass Most Wanted.
