For services less than or equal to 400 amps, the application's "Load Letter" section must be completed and signed by a licensed electrician. For services equal to or greater than 600 amps, the application must be accompanied by a separate load calculation letter with a professional engineer's seal.
For any questions, please reach out to the WMLP's Power Systems Technician, Bryce Carpenter, at 781-235-7600 x3390.
If you cannot complete and submit your application online, bring a printed, completed, and signed copy to the WMLP's Customer Service desk at 4 Municipal Way between 7:30 am and 3 pm, Monday through Friday.
Arrange for a site visit with the WMLP's Infrastructure Engineer, Alvaro Sosa, to scope out the project (e.g., conduit trench route and meter location).
Please note that the WMLP requires that all new and upgraded electric service be placed underground which may require a street opening permit. For information, contact the Department of Public Works Engineering Division at 781-235-7600 x3315.
The WMLP will prepare a cost estimate and issue an invoice for its equipment, material, and labor costs.
At customer or contractor expense, construct and complete the requisite trenching and conduit installation work. Before back filling the trench, schedule a trench inspection with the WMLP (a notice of at least 24 hours is required).
Once the WMLP issues an approved Trench Inspection Report AND receives payment, it can proceed to schedule the delivery and installation of the service cable (for 200-amp services, within two weeks; for 400 -amp services and above, within 12 weeks).
After the WMLP installs the service cable, a licensed electrician may then install it on the side of the house or building in an appropriately sized conduit and make the electrical connections in an NESC-approved meter socket. Schedule a wiring inspection with the Town's Electrical Inspector (Building Department) at 781-431-1019 x2222. After passing inspection, contact the WMLP to "Meter and Connect" (M&C) the new or upgraded service.
