[ARCHIVED] This Week in Wellesley

Here are some key events and activities for the week of June 9. 

Select Board Office Hours. Speak with Select Board Vice Chair Marjorie Freiman on Monday, June 9 at Town Hall or via Zoom. Marjorie is holding office hours from noon to 1:30 p.m. Email Marjorie directly at mfreiman@wellesleyma.gov to request a 15-minute appointment and specify if you prefer in-person or Zoom. You'll receive a reply confirming your appointment time and the Zoom link, if applicable. In-person office hours take place in the Upper Conference Room on the 3rd floor of Town Hall. 

RIO Task Force. The new RIO (Residential Incentive Overlay) Task Force will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, June 11 to review bylaw and suggest changes. Task Force members were appointed by the Planning Board. Learn more about the RIO Task Force.

School Committee Office Hours. The School Committee will hold final office hours for the 2024-2025 school year on Wednesday, June 11. Office hours are on Zoom from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Flag Day. Wellesley will hold the annual Flag Day event on Saturday, June 14 at 1 p.m. to retire and appropriately dispose of worn and tattered American flags. The event will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery with the assistance of the Wellesley Fire Department. Flags to be retired may be dropped off at Town Hall or at the RDF until noon on Wednesday, June 11. Please remove any sticks, poles, or hanging material. 

Climate Cafe. Drop by the Climate Cafe on at the Wellesley Free Library on Thursday, June 12 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to learn how you can save resources as you reduce your carbon footprint. Ask questions of MWRTA representatives about local public transit and chat with a Wellesley Energy Coach. about ways to lower energy use, increase your property value, landscape sustainably, and more! Enjoy treats from local bakery Le Petit Four. Hosted by the Climate Action Committee, Wellesley Free Library, and Sustainable Wellesley.

Planning Board Vacancy. The Planning Board is seeking interested candidates for an Associate Member position, to fill in during votes in the event a regular member cannot participate, attend meetings, and serve as the liaison to other Town Boards and Committees. Candidates must be a Wellesley resident and should submit a letter of interest and brief resume to Planning Director Eric Arbeene by June 20. 

Council on Aging Bus Driver Vacancy. The COA is looking for a part-time bus driver, available 1-2 days/week. This is a paid position; candidates need a valid driver's license, high school diploma or equivalent, and an interest in working with senior citizens. Must be at least 25-years old with 10 years of driving experience. Specific MWRTA training will be provided. Please email the Council on Aging. 

Bike & E-bike Signs. New electronic signs are now on display at Sprague Field to encourage safe and respectful bike, e-bike, and e-scooter riding. A reminder that e-bikes are not allowed on Wellesley fields, and riders should be cautious and yeild to pedestrians. Read bike and e-bike tips. 

And from last week...Congratulations to the Class of 2025! Wellesley High School celebrated commencement on Friday, June 6 at Hunnewell Field. The weather cooperated as more than 300 students accepted diplomas in front of their families, faculty, and friends. The last day of school for WPS grades K-11 will be Friday, June 20. Please note: Thursday, June 19 is a holiday for both Schools and the Town of Wellesley. All school and municipal offices will be closed all day that day.
