Work to renovate Wellesley's softball fields starts the week of October 7th.
Department of Public Works (DPW) contractors will be prepping Lee Field for construction. Lee Field is part of the Hunnewell Field athletic area.
Initial work includes installing construction fencing, delivering equipment and setting up erosion controls to protect the area.
The contractor chosen for the project is M.J. Cataldo, Inc. from Littleton, MA.
Planned improvements to Lee Field include regrading the field, redoing the pathway, adding new drainage and irrigation, new water service, two new dugouts, fencing, new skin for the infield, a scoreboard, and bleachers. Landscaping and wetlands construction is also part of the renovation.
Work will take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and is scheduled to be completed in November.
The Lee Field renovation is Phase 1 of a larger project. Phase 2 will improve the Town's multi-purpose field, which is also used for softball. That work is expected to begin next summer.
DPW will provide periodic updates on this project.
