Reimagine a new Great Plain Avenue rotary in Wellesley!
Work to realign the Great Plain Avenue rotary, Wellesley Avenue and Seaver Street began on July 27, 2020.
The project is managed by the Department of Public Works. The work will be performed by J.H. Lynch & Sons, Inc. and their subcontractors.
Work on the roadway also includes the Rice Street to Brook Street intersections, and Brook Street to the Fuller Brook Road intersections. The project is expected to be completed in January 2021.
A number of proposed improvements are included in the project:
- Granite curbing will be installed, along with hot mix asphalt sidewalks, cement concrete wheelchair ramps to meet current ADA standards, crosswalks and new signage;
- Modifications are planned to the roadway drainage system;
- Roadways will be milled and paved, with new pavement markings, bicycle lanes, and street lights within the rotary area;
- A new sidewalk will be installed along Great Plain Avenue and Brook Street.
Work will take place Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
Police details will be onsite during the project to minimize impacts to traffic and other roadway functions. Two-lane traffic will be maintained throughout most of the project, although there may be some lane shifts to give the contractor room to perform the work.
Drivers should use alternative routes if possible during the construction hours.
