[ARCHIVED] Vote-by-Mail Update

Election 2020

The majority of Wellesley’s Vote-by-Mail ballots for the September 1, 2020 elections are in the mail to residents.

The Town Clerk’s Office has received 7,015 requests for mail-in ballots so far, which have all been entered into the Town voter database.

Out of the 7,015 State Primary Election ballot requests, 6,748 voters also requested the Town of Wellesley Special Election ballot. In Wellesley, the September 1 election includes two separate ballots - one for the Massachusetts State Primary and one for the Town Special Election to fill a current vacancy on the five-member Board of Selectmen.

Each ballot packet that was sent out included a ballot, three envelopes and instructions, plus several labels.  All of the labeling and processing was done by hand at Town Hall. Thank you to the many community members who helped with the mailing.

By the end of the day on Monday, August 17, approximately 13, 619 ballot packets were assembled, metered postage was affixed, and the packets were delivered to the U.S. Post Office by Town staff.

Completed Vote-by-Mail ballots may be returned by U.S. Mail or dropped in the ballot drop box at Town Hall. Postage is pre-paid on State Primary ballots; Special Election ballots must be mailed with a 55 cent or "Forever" stamp. Ballot box

A new larger ballot drop box will be installed at Town Hall by the Department of Public Works in the coming days to accommodate the high number of completed ballots.

Voters can track the status of their ballots through the website for the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth. Please allow at least a few days for delivery.

The last day to request a Vote-by-Mail ballot is Wednesday, August 26.

To be counted, Vote-by-Mail ballots must be returned to Town Hall no later than September 1st at 8:00 pm.  Ballots may not be returned to in-person polling locations.

Complete 2020 Election information is available on the Town Clerk’s webpages
